About this place
Settling in at the counter with a drink while picking through hearty, izakaya-style dishes is the main appeal of Bar Mu in Jimbocho. Though it is a bar, the food menu is expansive, running from complimentary starters to small plates, fried bites, and slow-cooked stews designed to please dedicated drinkers. The light, airy soufflé omelet and the fragrant stir-fried sea urchin with greens are often highlighted as memorable plates among those who stop by.
For quick snacks to accompany the first pour, the kitchen turns out refreshing vinegared offal, house-made liver mousse, and spicy creamed changja. Meat dishes that naturally coax along another drink are just as well represented, including slow-cooked torolever (rich pork liver sashimi style), seared beef heart tataki, gently simmered beef tendon and chicken stews, and a playful arrabbiata-inspired mottsubiata.
Whiskies form the backbone of the drinks list, featuring Japanese standards like Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Yoichi alongside Scotches such as Talisker, Bowmore, and Laphroaig, plus American pours like Bulleit Bourbon and Knob Creek. Beyond whisky, the bar serves Riku highballs, yuzu honey highballs, house-made lemon sours, tea highballs, and medium bottles of Sapporo Red Star, giving guests the flexibility to tailor each round to their mood or meal.
Operating hours run from 17:00 in the evening until 5:00 the following morning. Except on Sundays, when it is closed, it serves as a dependable stop for late-night drinking, after-parties, or a proper meal in the small hours. Free Wi-Fi is available, and payments can be made by credit card or PayPay, making it an easy place to linger over good drinks and varied small plates.
